Michele Bachmann

Michele Bachmann stole the spotlight Monday night in New Hampshire, using the second GOP presidential debate of the season to announce that she is indeed running for president.
The Minnesota congresswoman and leader of the House Tea Party Caucus had telegraphed a campaign for weeks, but she made it official in her opening statement – triggering the early headline of the evening. Ms. Bachmann then delivered a strong debate performance, articulating her conservative views, demonstrating her status as an activist member of the House, and introducing herself to voters.
The most eye-popping point on Bachmann’s résumé: She and her husband have been foster parents to 23 children, in addition to raising five children of their own. She pointed this out twice Monday night.
“Bachmann ... pleased with her performance, with reason,” University of Virginia politics-watcher Larry Sabato tweeted at the end of the debate.
The second winner of the evening was Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts. The early front-runner for the Republican nomination could have faced “incoming” from other contenders, particularly over his Massachusetts health-care reform – a model for President Obama’s reform – and his changed views on abortion. But the six other candidates on stage took a pass.
Instead, former President Reagan’s 11th Commandment – “Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican” – got a good workout. And Mr. Romney was allowed to look calmly in command and to repeat his explanation for why “Romneycare” was a legitimate initiative at the state level but not an appropriate model for the entire country.
“Ours was a state plan, a state solution, and if people don't like it in our state, they can change it,” Romney said. “That's the nature of why states are the right place for this type of responsibility. And that's why I introduced a plan to repeal Obamacare and replace it with a state-centric program.”
One big question of the evening was whether former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty would go after Romney on health care. On “Fox News Sunday” the day before, he had coined the term “Obamneycare,” a ready-made sound bite to fling again at the front-runner, this time to his face. But Mr. Pawlenty backed away, despite the efforts of moderator John King of CNN to spark a fight. “Minnesota nice” prevailed again, as it had in the first debate on May 5.
The early line from pundits was that Pawlenty missed a golden opportunity to go after Romney and begin to build a profile as a fighter. After all, many asked, if he is not willing to take on the front-runner, how would he behave toward Mr. Obama in the general election?
An alternate view is that Pawlenty remains largely unknown to most voters, and that he chose to take the biggest opportunity to date to introduce himself to the public in a positive light. There are at least seven months to go before the first nominating contests, and Pawlenty still has time. The bad news for the Minnesotan is that he didn’t distinguish himself in other ways during the two-hour event. Romney even beat him in dropping a reference to the Boston Bruins – noting they were up 4-0 in Game Six of the Stanley Cup finals, winning a big cheer from the New Hampshire crowd.
Another loser of the evening was businessman Herman Cain. He won big during the first debate, speaking bluntly and plainly as the only nonpolitician in the field, and he has seen his poll numbers rise steadily since then. But Mr. Cain, former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza, got tangled up in his explanation of a previous statement of why he would not be “comfortable” having a Muslim in his administration.
“I would not be comfortable because you have peaceful Muslims and then you have militant Muslims, those that are trying to kill us,” Cain said. “And so, when I said I wouldn't be comfortable, I was thinking about the ones that are trying to kill us.”
When pressed by Mr. King on whether he would have a “loyalty test” for a Muslim seeking to serve in a Cain administration, he said: “I would ask certain questions, John. And it's not a litmus test. It is simply trying to make sure that we have people committed to the Constitution first in order for them to work effectively in the administration.”
Romney was handed the followup, and steered clear of the “loyalty test” issue. “I think we recognize that the people of all faiths are welcome in this country,” he said. “Our nation was founded on a principle of religious tolerance. That's in fact why some of the early patriots came to this country and we treat people with respect regardless of their religious persuasion.”
Romney did not mention his own faith – Mormonism – but his answer reflected his view that his religious beliefs should not be a factor as voters judge his fitness for the presidency. Some voters, especially evangelicals, say they’re not comfortable with the idea of a Mormon president, an issue that could hurt Romney in the primaries.
Another question heading into the New Hampshire debate was how former House Speaker Newt Gingrich would perform. Most of his senior staff resigned last week over his unorthodox strategy, which is light on in-person campaigning and heavy on social media and debates.
Mr. Gingrich probably did himself no favors. When asked about his recent assertion that the GOP plan for Medicare, authored by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, was “right-wing social engineering” – a comment he later backed away from – he offered this:
“If you're dealing with something as big as Medicare and you can't have a conversation with the country where the country thinks what you're doing is the right thing, you better slow down,” Gingrich said. “Remember, we all got mad at Obama because he ran over us when we said don't do it. Well, the Republicans ought to follow the same ground rule. If you can't convince the American people it's a good idea, maybe it's not a good idea.”
The Ryan plan would turn Medicare into a voucher system, ending it as a fee-for-service entitlement. Public opinion on the idea is negative, and Democrats have used it as a blunt instrument to attack Republicans. But Gingrich’s critique has injected a discordant note within the GOP, and his continuing defense of it Monday night reignited that issue.
In the end, though, the night belonged to Bachmann and Romney. As a sitting member of Congress, Bachmann could speak in the present tense about her actions to fight the Obama agenda.
“I was the very first member of Congress to introduce the full-scale repeal of Obamacare,” she said.
It’s way too soon to say whether the GOP nomination race will boil down to Bachmann versus Romney. But there’s certainly a path to that outcome. Bachmann, who is originally from Iowa, could be a strong contender in the Iowa caucuses, where social conservatives often win the day. Caucus-goers could hesitate over the fact that she’s only a member of the House – not a typical launch pad for winning the presidency.
Bachmann has many miles to go as a full-fledged candidate for voters to determine her viability. But she speaks the tea party and social conservative language fluently, and thus she’s a force to watch.

Flag Day

If you're not sure of the significance of June 14, you're not alone. Flag Day tends to fly under the radar.
The holiday commemorates the adoption of the U.S. flag by the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777, uniting the newborn nation under one symbol.
While the 1777 Congress specified 13 stripes and 13 stars on a field of blue, it didn’t dictate an exact pattern for the new flag’s star-spangled corner. As a result, there’s some variety among the flag designs of the Revolutionary War era. Historians say Betsy Ross’ circle of stars is probably one of the oldest.
Americans have been celebrating the flag on June 14 since the 1800s, but it wasn’t until 1916 that a President, Woodrow Wilson, proclaimed the day of recognition. Congress officially established June 14 as Flag Day in 1949.
Coming as it does midway between the patriotic holidays of Memorial Day and the Fourth of July, Flag Day is often overlooked. It doesn’t help that it’s not one of the 10 federal holidays – so nobody has off work.
Only in Pennsylvania, home of Betsy Ross, is June 14 a state holiday.
But plenty of groups will be honoring the flag today in recognition of the holiday. Rich Corcoran ofAmerican Legion Post 232 in Barnegat said the veterans’ group and local boy scouts take time each Flag Day to retire the flag and raise a new one in its place.
Tonight's ceremony begins at 7 p.m. at the post, 499 Route 9, after which the old flag will be respectfully burned – the proper way to dispose of an American flag no longer in use.
“Most people don’t know about it,” he said of the holiday. “I think we need to get the word out.”
Lowering your own flag tonight, but can't remember from your school days how to properly fold Old Glory? USFlag.orghas instructions:
  1. Begin by holding the flag waist-high with another person so that its surface is parallel to the ground.
  2. Fold the lower half of the stripe section lengthwise over the field of stars, holding the bottom and top edges securely.
  3. Fold the flag again lengthwise with the blue field on the outside.
  4. Make a triangular fold by bringing the striped corner of the folded edge to meet the open (top) edge of the flag.
  5. Turn the outer (end) point inward, parallel to the open edge, to form a second triangle.
  6. The triangular folding is continued until the entire length of the flag is folded in this manner.
  7. When the flag is completely folded, only a triangular blue field of stars should be visible.

The longest and darkest total lunar eclipse of the century will occur on Wednesday, giving sky enthusiasts all over the country an opportunity to witness the event.
An unusually long lunar eclipse with the Moon immersed deeply inside the umbral (darker) shadow of the Earth will occur Nehru Planetarium Director N Rathnasree said.

The next such eclipse will only take place in 2141.
The total lunar eclipse will begin at 00:52:30 IST and end at 02:32:42 IST. The partial eclipse will begin at 23:52:56 IST and end at 03:32:15 IST.

At 11:29 PM, the Moon will occult (hide) behind the star 51 Ophiuchi. The star will reappear after 90 minutes at 01:01 AM of June 16, Kumar said.

Chitkabrey

Akshara Gowda is threatening to take legal action against filmmaker Suneet Arora for leaking her bold lovemaking scenes and song videos from the film 'Chitkabrey'
She recently backed out from the promotions of her debut filmChitkabrey and now Akshara Gowda, the upcoming actress recently linked with cricketer Yuvraj Singh, is threatening to take legal action against the filmmaker for outraging her modesty.
The dare-to-bare actress, Akshara Gowda has accused engineer-turned-filmmaker Suneet Arora of leaking her bold lovemaking scenes and song videos from the film ' Chitkabrey – The Shades of Grey ' and is threatening to take the legal course against him. In the film, Akshara plays the bold role of Palak, an elite house wife, enjoying lavish lifestyle and living by the brands. She engages in a steamy lovemaking scene with Rajesh Shringapurey, who plays an arrogant and lecherous character.
On the other hand, producer-director Suneet claims that the allegations are baseless which he can prove. Also he is upset with the callous attitude of Akshara. "I'm saddened by Akshara's attitude and I never imagined that she would refuse to promote the film, which is so dear to me. For me, she is just one of the characters because my film is about seven couples. And thankfully, all of them are promoting the film and believe in it. I'm sure that once the film becomes a huge hit, she will realize her folly and come back to our Chitkabrey family", says Arora.
 Â
Incidentally Akshara had no issues going topless for 30 minutes for the shoot, when asked to show emotions for a lovemaking scene. "During the love making scene, she insisted on taking off her clothes to look real and gave fantastic expressions", adds Arora. The love making scene in the song 'Dhoop Chhaon' has come out too stark and bold as is evident in the video. However, once she got publicity even before the film released, Akshara has refused to promote the film even though she is contractually bound to do so.

CIMB Singapore

RHB Capital Bhd has received the green light fromBank Negara to start talking with CIMB Group Holdings Bhdand Malayan Banking Bhd on merger negotiations, paving the way for the bidders to submit their respective offers tomorrow.
RHB Cap had submitted its application to the central bank last Friday and told Bursa Malaysia yesterday that it received a letter of approval to commence negotiations with both banking groups for three months from the date of the letter.
StarBiz sources had disclosed over the weekend that RHB Cap's board of directors set an internal target of Thursday for Maybank and CIMB to submit their offers.
“The target is for the board to make a decision within two weeks from now and call for a shareholders meeting as they don't want the uncertainty to be prolonged - be if for the staff or the stock market,” a source had said.
Reliable sources also said CIMB had appointed Morgan Stanley as its adviser while it was reported previously that Maybank has gone withNomura Singapore Ltd.
Meanwhile, a Bloomberg report yesterday said Japan's biggest banking group Mitsubishi USJ Financial Group Incplanned to strengthen its capital alliance with CIMB group to boost its banking business in South-East Asia as it sells 29.9% stake in Kim Eng Holdings Ltd for 34 billion yen to CIMB's bigger rival Maybank.
Mitsubishi UFJ, which owns 4.1% of CIMB, wants to increase equity and bond underwriting in the region with its partner's corporate client network, the Japanese's brokerage unit said in a statement yesterday. The Japanese banking group's stake sale in Kim Eng is part of Maybank's takeover of Singaporean stockbroker Kim Eng.
Mitsubishi UFJ is seeking to utilise its stake in CIMB group to maintain a presence in Asean, as its smaller rival Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Groupwas rumoured to be eyeing Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank's (ADCB) 25% stake in RHB Cap.
ADCB's was seeking to sell its stake in RHB Cap as part of its rationalisation programme and also in line with Abu Dhabi's plan to rationalise its banking assets under a single umbrella.
A Maybank-RHB Cap merger would result in an enlarged banking group with assets of RM513bil (based on data as at end-March 2011) and market value of RM86.4bil. It will retain its spot as fourth largest bank by asset size in Asia but narrow the gap with its biggest rivals - Singapore'sDBS Bank, OCBC Bank and United Overseas Bank Group.
A CIMB-RHB Cap merger will lead to an enlarged group with assets of RM405bil, de-throning Maybank as the country's lead banking group based on assets at RM380bil.
The enlarged group will emerge as the fourth largest bank by asset size in the region.
Analysts who had pegged the deal at 2x-2.5x book of RHB Cap based on its net tangible asset per share of RM4.79 as at end March 2011, valued the group at RM9.58 to RM12.

Li Ning Singapore Open 2011

Li Ning Singapore Open 2011

This year's Li-Ning Singapore Open has attracted some of the world's best shuttlers mainly because ranking points for Olympic qualification are at stake.

Big names competing include Olympic gold medallist Lin Dan from China and India's top women shuttler Saina Nehwal. But Malaysia's world number one male player, Lee Chong Wei is giving the Singapore event a miss.

It was a good 2010 for India's Saina Nehwal, who won three Super Series titles, including the Li-Ning Singapore Open women's singles event.

She is back to defend her title and the world number four said she is expecting a stiff challenge from Chinese players.

She said: "I am really working on my strokes, little bit more on my movement, so that I move faster against them. Because (at any point should) you move slower or you take it easy, you will lose the match. So I need to be very quick on the courts, so I am working on that speed and a lot of my strokes."

Defending men's singles champion, Sony Dwi Kuncoro from Indonesia and China's Lin Dan did not show up for the media conference on Monday. No reason was given for the Indonesian's no show, while Lin Dan cited a stomach upset for giving the media session a miss.

Last year's losing finalist in the men's singles, Boonsak Ponsana, agrees with Nehwal about the tougher competition this year. The Thai, who won the Singapore singles title in 2007, also thinks the prize money can be better to promote the sport.

Veteran Danish shuttler Peter Gade agreed and added that the Badminton World Federation can learn from the success of the Chinese.

He said: "The BWF's job is to transfer what they see and what they do with the Chinese in China to other countries. You have a huge interest for badminton. When we play in almost every country, if you have the right players, all the best players, a lot of spectators. So it should be possible."

Host Singapore's best chance lies with the women's doubles pair of Shinta Mulia Sari and Yao Lei, who are the defending champions.

With a stellar line-up of players competing this year, organisers are expecting more fans to show up. Already all 4,000 season tickets and 90 per cent of the premier seats have been sold out, even before the competition starts on Tuesday.

CET Results 2011 Maharashtra
The Maharashtra Health and Technology Common Entrance Test ( MHTCET 2011) this year has thrown up some interesting results, especially in the health science courses, sources in the office of Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) disclosed.

Though there was rise this year in the number of students aspiring for health science courses by 16,053 compared to last year, the number of eligible candidates witnessed a drop of 2.47%. Last year, out of 1.76 lakh candidates, 26,905 cleared the exam which was 15.23%. This year 1.92 lakh took the exam of which only 23,147 passed.

This comes to 12.76%. This year, 1,04,178 aspirants were boys (54.07%) while 88,507 (45.93%) were girls. Over one lakh engineering, 7,000 medical and 9,000 pharmacy seats are to be filled through MHT-CET.

The number is to increase in coming days with many new colleges slated to open. These 23,147 students will fight for 7,000 medical seats. Even the state HSC results witnessed a drop of almost 7% this year.

Out of 3,02,684 total registered candidates, 2,98,897 actually appeared for the exam conducted on May 12 across 786 centres in 35 districts of state. The results would be officially out on Tuesday at 10am and the marksheets would be available to the candidates at their respective junior colleges. Like last year, there will be no merit list to stop unnecessary competition among students.

"We have already dispatched the marksheets to the colleges in sealed packets. We have taken an undertaking from them that they would be not be releasing them to anyone until 4pm, as per instructions from DMER office," liaison officer for MHT-CET for Nagpur division Dr SM Parate told TOI.

Of the three regions in state, only Marathwada has recorded positive results with a marginal rise of 0.02% compared to last year. Rest of Maharashtra and Vidarbha regions witnessed a drop 4.35% and 2.65% respectively in the number of eligible candidates.

Interestingly, the number of candidates has increased in all three regions. The admission to health science courses would probably begin in July first week with the filling up of preference forms at four centres in the state.

These are Grant Medical College in Mumbai, BJ medical College in Pune, Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) in Nagpur and Aurangabad. The final merit list is likely to be out on July 25. The engineering admissions would be made by Directorate of Technical Education (DTE).

The process is likely to begin from July 20 while admissions for veterinary science courses would be made by Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU).

This year 45,541 candidates had applied for the biology group (for medical admissions) compared to 1.07 lakh for the mathematics (for engineering admissions) and 1.49 lakh for biology and mathematics combine (students aspiring for both fields).

Interestingly, the number of aspirants for medical seats witnessed a significant jump this year compared to last six years.

LaddaLand Movie

LaddaLand Movie
Thailand seems to have succeeded in developing wings in the field of widescreen movies to this our homeland. After the success of various movie genre romantic comedy like Suck Seed and Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Thailand is now trying his luck with the re-spawn a new horror movie. Yes, Thailand is famous for his ability in making a horror movie. Both in terms of storyline and sound effects and processing images from the film. So, this is one of the latest horror film from Thailand, Ladda Land.
Ladda Land tells the story of a family that recently moved into a new house. Family consisting of father, mother, a daughter who had been teenagers, and a boy it seems very enthusiastic about their move was. But on the first night, they began to feel something unusual with this house. Many events that do not make sense that they see.All four family members seeing visions of a figure is often a scary woman.
As for example when the girls start to see a pair of legs that runs between the clothesline, or when his friends came to the house and tried to intimidate him and then came the apparition of a woman with long hair behind them. Who is the figure the appearance of this long-haired woman? What to do with the house they occupy?
One half-hour length movies are reportedly removed from a true story in the area of Chiang Mai is indeed much abandoned by its inhabitants because there are many strange happenings that are not absurd and bizarre deaths.
One of the things that might become his top security this movie because the director and the story goes. Sophon Sakdaphisit is the director and writer of the film that has the other title is The Last Home. What makes Sophon make this movie has the added value?
The answer is because Sophon a horror movie script writers some phenomenal in Thailand that is Shutter and Alone, which he wrote with the duo Sutrdara Banjong Pisanthanakun and Parkpoon Woongpoom. Directorial debut began with the Thai horror film directed Coming Soon that is also quite successful in the market in 2008.The experience of writing the script Shutter, Alone, and directed Coming Soon could make this film promising and worthy to watch.
This is evidenced by the enthusiasm of the audience in Thailand. The Last Home (aka Ladda ลัด ดา แลน Land) has successfully topped the Box Office in Thailand. In the first week of release, the film has been released since 28 April 2011 this past has accumulated 463,084,261 baht (or about $ 1,531,337). More dasyatnya again, this film also managed to beat the leading Hollywood film this summer that is Thor, which only just managed to get $ 964,130.
This record is good enough to prove that Thailand could be the host of his own handiwork. Supported by good production values, the way the story is simple really able to evoke the atmosphere of horror that is desired by the director.
Another interesting thing is on one poster. Where the poster depicting a happy family.Four family members who are smiling so wide. But when viewed as good there is an appearance of long-haired woman behind them.
After the success of Shutter, Alone, Dorm, and Phobias, Ladda Could Land which is also equally the production of this GMM reap the same success in Indonesia? We'll wait on the game at one of Indonesian cinema.

Nouriel Roubini

A “perfect storm” of fiscal woe in the U.S., a slowdown in China, European debt restructuring and stagnation in Japan may converge on the global economy, New York University professor Nouriel Roubini said.
There’s a one-in-three chance the factors will combine to stunt growth from 2013, Roubini said in a June 11 interview in Singapore. Other possible outcomes are “anemic but OK” global growth or an “optimistic” scenario in which the expansion improves.
“There are already elements of fragility,” he said. “Everybody’s kicking the can down the road of too much public and private debt. The can is becoming heavier and heavier, and bigger on debt, and all these problems may come to a head by 2013 at the latest.”
Elevated U.S. unemployment, a surge in oil and food prices, risinginterest rates in Asia and trade disruption from Japan’s record earthquake threaten to sap the world economy. Stocks worldwide have lost more than $3.3 trillion since the beginning of May, and Roubini said financial markets by the middle of next year could start worrying about a convergence of risks in 2013.
The MSCI AC World Index has tumbled 4.9 percent this month on concern recent data, including an increase in the U.S. unemployment rate to 9.1 percent in May, signal the global economy is losing steam.U.S. Treasuries rose last week, pushing two-year note yields down for a ninth week in the longest stretch of decreases since February 2008, on bets the Federal Reserve will maintain monetary stimulus.
Bond Market ‘Revolt’World expansion may slow in the second half of 2011 as “the deleveraging process continues,” fiscal stimulus is withdrawn and confidence ebbs, Roubini also said.
Easing growth may spur demand for dollar assets as a “safe haven,” he said in response to questions after a speech in Singapore today. The Dollar Index, which gauges the U.S. currency’s value against a basket of six counterparts including the euro, yen and British pound, rose 0.1 percent as of 11:35 a.m. in Singapore, bound for a fourth straight daily increase.
Roubini is among analysts who predicted the global financial crisis of 2007-2009 that was triggered by a collapse in the value of U.S. mortgage securities.
Some of his other predictions haven’t panned out, including his call on July 4, 2010, for “market surprises on the downside” in ensuing months and a weakening in economic growth. The MSCI World Index rallied 23 percent in the second half of last year, while U.S. gross domestic product gains accelerated to 2.6 percent in the third quarter and 3.1 percent in the fourth quarter from 1.7 percent in the April-to-June period.
U.S. Bonds
Roubini said two days ago that in the U.S., a failure to address the budget deficit risks a bond market “revolt.” President Barack Obama’s administration has been negotiating with Republicans, who control the House of Representatives, over cutting the federal government’s long-term shortfall and raising the debt ceiling.
“We’re still running over a trillion-dollar budget deficit this year, next year and most likely in 2013,” Roubini said in a speech in Singapore on June 11. “The risk is at some point, the bond market vigilantes are going to wake up in the U.S., like they did in Europe, pushing interest rates higher and crowding out the recovery.”
In Europe, officials need to restructure the debt of Greece, Ireland and Portugal, and waiting too long may result in a “more disorderly” process, Roubini also said.
European officials are racing to find a plan to stem Greece’s debt crisis by June 24 while sharing the cost of a new rescue with bondholders. Saddled with the euro area’s heaviest debt load, Greece is seeking additional loans after last year’s 110 billion-euro ($159 billion) bailout.
Japan’s Contraction
Japan’s economy, the world’s third-largest, slid into a recession last quarter, using the textbook definition of consecutive quarterly declines in GDP, after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami and ensuing nuclear crisis. The government is spending an initial 4 trillion yen ($50 billion) to clean up from the disaster, which is estimated to have caused as much as 25 trillion yen in economic damage.
Bank of Japan Governor Masaaki Shirakawa said on June 1 that supply constraints are easing faster than expected as companies rush to repair their facilities. The risk in Japan is “if growth fizzles out after a short-term reconstruction stimulus,” leading to a renewed struggle to maintain expansion around 2013, Roubini said.
China’s economy may face a “hard landing” after 2013 as government efforts to boost growth through investment cause excess capacity, Roubini told reporters after his June 11 speech.
‘Overcapacity’ in China“China is now relying increasingly not just on net exports but on fixed investment” which has climbed to about 50 percent of GDP, he said. “Down the line, you are going to have two problems: a massive non-performing loan problem in the banking system and a massive amount of overcapacity is going to lead to a hard landing.”
A record $2.7 trillion of loans were extended in China over two years, pushing property prices to all-time highs even as authorities set price ceilings, demanded higher deposits and limited second-home purchases.
The nation’s current challenge is to maintain growth and curb price gains ahead of a leadership change next year, Roubini said. Officials may use administrative steps and price controls, as well as raising rates further and allowing currency appreciation, if inflation becomes a bigger problem, he said.
Political Transition“The policy challenge through next year, where you have a delicate political transition of the leadership, is to maintain growth in the 8 to 9 percent range while pushing inflation below what it is right now,” said Roubini, the co-founder and chairman of New York-based Roubini Global Economics LLC.
After next year, the bigger challenge in China is “to reduce fixed investment and savings and increase consumption. Otherwise after 2013, there will be a hard landing,” he said.
The risk of “outright” deflation and the probability of another recession in the U.S. are lower now than a year ago, and output in Japan could rebound in the second half of the year, Roubini said two days ago. “High-grade” corporations have “very strong” balance sheets, he said.
Roubini in July 2006 predicted a “catastrophic” global financial meltdown that central bankers would be unable to prevent. The collapse of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. in 2008 sparked turmoil that led to the worst financial crisis since the 1930s.

Lee Min Ho Accident

Lee Min Ho was recently involved in a car accident on the set of SBS’s “City Hunter“!
On June 13th, a representative for the actor stated, “Today on the 13th at around 3:30 PM, there was an accident involving a partial destruction of a vehicle at a ‘City Hunter‘ filming near a lake in Ilsan. Even though the air bags burst upon strong impact and the front part of the car was completely smashed, Lee Min Ho fortunately did not receive any significant injuries.”
A picture of the accident scene was revealed as well, and it showed the car in which Lee Min Ho rode in was significantly damaged, implying that it could have led to an even more serious situation.
The rep added, “After the accident, Lee Min Ho was transported to a nearby hospital and has returned home to rest at around 6 PM after being cleared from any major injuries from test results. The filming has stopped completely and will resume depending on how this situation develops.”
A staff member who was in the car at the time is also being treated at the hospital.
Kim Young Seop CP of “City Hunter” stated, “We will have to see when we can resume filming depending on Lee Min Ho’s condition. This car chase scene amounted to around 7 – 8 minutes of footage but this interruption will not affect the broadcast schedule for this week.”

Celebrities At ScreenSingapore Opening

THEY came, they strutted, they wowed.
Shoppers at VivoCity were greeted with an explosion of glitz and glamour at the opening night of ScreenSingapore yesterday.
The opening ceremony of the inaugural eight-day film festival and business convention saw the guest of honour, Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts Yaacob Ibrahim, as well as Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi, one of 60 ScreenSingapore ambassadors, walking down the red carpet.
Zhang, who last visited Singapore in 2009, flew in yesterday afternoon, amid a downpour that caused flash floods in some areas.
On the red carpet, looking resplendent in a black sequin Ralph Lauren dress and elbow-high gloves, she joked that, today, she hopes "to see the sun".
More seriously, she added: "I haven't come back to Singapore for the purpose of promoting a film in a while. This time, I'm back for something different and special."
She has just wrapped filming The Grand Master, the film about Ip Man by Wong Kar Wai.
When asked if she was disappointed that her last film, Till Death Do Us Part - starring Zhang and Aaron Kwok as Aids patients who fall in love - has not been screened here, she was sanguine.
"As long as fans love to watch movies, they'll find a way to watch them," she said.
Other celebrities who walked the red carpet were Taiwanese actress Anya Wu, who stars in Hong Kong horror film The Devil Inside Me - the film that opened the festival at VivoCity.
Hong Kong director Gordon Chan and some of the cast of his latest fantasy film, The Mural, also walked the red carpet.
Earlier in the day, the media gathered for a press conference at Capella Singapore. There, Hollywood producer Jon Landau, famed for his work on the James Cameron blockbusters Titanic and Avatar, lauded ScreenSingapore's efforts in bringing the world of film to this little red dot.
"The film industry is no longer about countries. It's a global business...and there's no greater growth potential than what exists in Asia today in the film industry."
He added: "For years, Singapore was the gateway to the world and Asia in shipping. I think it has the potential to be the same gateway to the world of cinema - (people in the film industry can) come here and access all that Asia has to offer."
Zhang will walk the red carpet once again on the closing night at Shaw Lido on Saturday, along with bigwigs such as Tom Hanks, Lee Byung Hun and Vanness Wu, for the Asia-Pacific premiere of Hanks' new dramedy, Larry Crowne.
The film event will see gala premieres of 11 films and sneaks at Cathay Cineleisure Orchard, GV Plaza and Shaw Lido every day of the week.

TGIF

One of the things that Katy Perry does very well is to think of a fun, creative concepts and run with it. Point in case is the video for her new single "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)," a totally fun video that is saturated with color, late '80s momentos and early '90s relics that is executed to perfection.
Featuring Perry's nerdy teen alter ego Kathy Beth Terry, the video is a perfect companion to Perry's flirty and frothy pop that will surely help to push this single to the top of the charts. Another number one for the teen pop queen would be an extraordinary accomplishment that would follow her five consecutive Billboard number ones with "California Girls," "Teenage Dream," "Fireworks" and "E.T."
Look out for for a bunch of cameos in de 8+ minute Director's Cut of the "Last Friday Night" video that premiered on Funny Or Die last night (go figure). Kevin McHale, Darren Criss, Debbie Gibson, Corey Feldham, Rebecca Black, Hanson and even sax player Kenny G make quick appearances in the video. Watch it after the break.

Neil Patrick Harris

Neil Patrick Harris hosted the 65th Annual Tony Awards Sunday night and, as usual, he rocked it! With an utterly entertaining openly number, Harris proved that he was, once again, the perfect person to lead an award show honoring the singers and dancers of the Broadway world.
The other stars of the night were the cast, crew and creators of the Great White Way's smash hit Book of Mormon, which walked away with nine of the 14 awards it was nominated for. From the minds of South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the production won for Best Musical, but not before presenter Chris Rock noted that revealing the winner of the night's biggest award was pretty anti-climactic.

"Come on. We know what the Best Musical is. This is such a waste of time. It's like taking a hooker to dinner," Rock cracked.
But there were plenty of other surprising and entertaining moments during the broadcast, as Harris and former Tony host Hugh Jackman participated in a host singing/dancing battle. After the hilarious performance, Harris told Jackman, "That was tough. Now I know why you're all six-pack-y."
Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe showed off his musical talents while performing a number from How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying with costar John Laroquette. The former Night Court star then took home his first Tony for his role in the show, and thanked Radcliffe, whom without he would be "sitting at home in my underwear watching this."
The night was not without jokes aimed at the troubled Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, who Harris gave himself 30 seconds to make fun of. Later, the show's creators Bono and The Edge introduced a number from the production, joking, "We used to be famous for being in U2."
Tony's other big winners included Ellen Barkin for her role in The Normal Heart, which was also awarded with Best Play Revival, and Frances McDormand who took home the Lead Actress in a Play honor for her stint in Good People.
All in all, the Tony Award broadcast was as delightful and entertaining as one of the many shows you can buy a ticket to in NYC. But this was free -- and it starred Neil Patrick Harris. A total win-win for everyone involved.

Sandra Bullock

She already owns property in New Orleans and her home-town of Austin, Texas.
But Oscar winning actress Sandra Bullock has decided to lay down some roots on the West Coast of the U.S as well.
The Blind Side star has forked over a whopping $23 million on a huge Tudor style mansion in Beverly Hills, California as a Los Angeles base for herself and her two-year-old adopted son Louis.
Set on more than four park-like acres and surrounded by an expansive lawn, the stately two-story house looks more like an Old English stately home than something you would find in the hills above Hollywood.
The main house, built in 1940, has a screening room, a library, a basement and it's own fully equiped gym.
There are seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms including a huge master suite bay windows and a luxurious bathroom with jacuzzi tub.
It has a giant chef's kitchen with stainless steel appliances and breakfast bar as well as doors that lead out onto a dining patio.
The interior of the house is still very traditional in style with wood panelled walls, dark wood floors and built in book cases.
Because of this, Sandra has reportedly chosen to fully renovate the property to suit her needs and tastes.
'It will take her a year to remodel the mansion and get it just how she wants it,' an insider said of the purchase.'
'It's a big project but when she's done it will be spectacular.'
The house offers panoramic views from downtown LA to the Pacific Ocean.
The park-like grounds include a swimming pool and a pool house with a large covered veranda and BBQ area, a tennis court  and 270-degree views which run from city lights to the ocean.
Among previous owners of the house is Hard Rock Cafe co-founder Peter Morton, who sold the property late last year for $15.5 million, according to public records.
Bullock, 46, won a lead actress Oscar for her role in The Blind Side and has starred in such hit movies as The Proposal, Miss Congeniality and Speed.
Not long after her Oscar win she separated from her husband of five years, Jessie James, after it was revealed he had been cheating on her with a sting of women.
Sandra then moved her life to Austin, Texas, along with her newly adopted son, Louis Bardo, but has since decided to return to Los Angeles full time.

P90X

We live in a world of quick fixes when it comes to losing weight and looking good. With Americans spending $40 billion a year on everything from pills and shakes to pre-packaged meals and cellulite creams, we’re obsessed with buying almost anything to drop a few. Just don’t try to sell any of those products to Tony Horton.
If you don’t know who Tony Horton is, maybe you should. He is one of the hottest names in fitness as the creator of P90X, the at-home extreme fitness DVD program that has swept the nation and sold more than three million copies. He is also the author ofBring It—a lifestyle guide designed to whip you into shape. But what makes him different from almost any other exercise guru?
We asked him for his best advice on how to really “bring it.”
Exercise for the Right Reasons
First things first, you need to ask yourself if you are ready to make a change in your life and commit to it. Horton said hopping on the Stairmaster for 20 minutes three times a week is a start, and better than nothing, but is not going to give you the level of fitness essential for a healthy life.
Why are you making this change? Horton said if it is just to be thinner, you need to reevaluate yourself.
“Get away from the whole aesthetics factor. It shouldn’t be about eating foods that will help you be smaller later. It doesn’t matter how small you are—the fitness is what matters,” he said.
Instead, Horton said to concentrate on all the other benefits of exercise, and if you lose a few pounds in the process—that’s a bonus.
“If I exercise today and eat well, I turn back the clock. Cells will grow stronger, my immune system will function better and improve my quality of life. Memory will improve, I will have less stress and feel better,” he added.
Don’t Put Garbage in Your Mouth
Most people will tell you that healthy eating can be the most difficult part of getting into shape. Counting calories, weighing food and eating packaged diet foods don’t translate to a lifestyle most of us can stick to. Horton said he believes it’s as simple as this—“Don’t put garbage in your mouth.”
“Nine times out of 10, almost everyone knows the difference between healthy and not healthy food. We all know soda and doughnuts are not good, but we eat them anyway. We are unconscious eaters,” he said.
Horton’s program starts with a cleanse to get the body functioning efficiently by eating mainly fruits and vegetables, cutting out sugar and alcohol, and of course processed foods.
“Ultimately the most important thing is to put healthy whole foods in your mouth. I have never counted a calorie in my life. I just make sure there are fruits and veggies on my plate every time I eat,” he said.
Take It Easy on Yourself
Hearing that people shouldn’t beat themselves up may sound surprising coming from someone as dedicated to fitness as Horton. But he claims America’s obsession with perfection is what causes us to fail.
“If you feel like you can’t do this, it’s OK to hit the pause button. The reason why so many people struggle is we have too many perfectionists. Who cares if you had a chocolate chip cookie? As long as you are in the game and participated, don’t beat yourself up,” he said.
Taking it easy also includes physical rest.
“Stress and not enough sleep will eventually kill your mojo, and you are more likely to fail. But if you have restful sleep, you will be able to sustain and be less stressed out,” he said.
Stick With It
So you’ve decided to change your lifestyle—you’re exercising, eating right and getting enough sleep. But how can you keep it up? Horton said the main thing is to understand how important it is in your life. But he also said he has a fool-proof way to stick with your exercise regimen—get a calendar and hang it on the refrigerator. Write down at the beginning of each month exactly what time you are going to work out every day, and as the days go on, cross out each day with a red pen. Sound silly? There is a method behind the madness.
“If you have already scheduled it like other appointments in your life, it is on there and it is about guilting yourself into doing something for yourself. Then you cross it out. It really works. It’s the simple techniques you follow and are able to stick to,” he said.
Winging It
Call it being lazy, call it falling off the wagon, call it taking a break—whatever you call it, it means making excuses as to why you are not living the healthy lifestyle you have the potential to live. And Horton said “winging it” will get you nowhere.
“Eighty percent of the people who say they don’t have enough time are full of crap. What they are saying is they don’t like it, and they don’t want to—that is the thing that drives me the most crazy—what people are doing to themselves is slow motion suicide,” he said.
Surround Yourself With Like-Minded People
How many times have you been out for happy hour and tried your best to make healthy choices, only to get heckled by your friends who are trying to get you to dive into the beer and nachos? According to Horton, you might want to think about getting some new friends.
“If you spend time with super-fit people who are getting up the next morning to run a marathon, you aren’t going to have a doughnut and a glass of wine. But if you are surrounded by people who don’t care, then you’re not going to keep your act together,” he said.
Horton emphasized having a rock-solid plan to be prepared for others to try and make you eat, drink or not exercise to make themselves feel better.
“Misery loves company. You need something powerful in your life to combat the negative things that are surrounding you,” he said.

Corpus Christi

A dispute over the treatment of a dog resulted in a fight between neighbors that ended with one man being arrested Saturday, Corpus Christi police said.
Officers met with Henry Miller, 49, in the 1500 block of Caldwell Street at 7:17 p.m. Miller told police he felt threatened by his neighbor's dog and attempted to strike him with a stick he was carrying. Miller said he missed and hit his neighbor's truck.
Miller's neighbor told police his dog was tied up and Miller kept hitting and agitating the dog. When he arrived to stop Miller, the 49-year-old neighbor said Miller struck him in the chest, breaking the stick with the blow.
Police said both men were treated for minor injuries at the scene by Corpus Christi fire department medics.
Miller is in Nueces County Jail on a $50,000 bond for aggravated assault.

Diana Ross

"Yo, Taylor. Imma let you finish but Diana Ross had one of the best rained out shows in Central Park of all time." On Thursday night, tens of thousands of fans were devastated after weather ruined their chance to see Taylor Swift along with the Black Eyed Peas in concert at the historic spot, but back in 1983 Diana Ross also had a free concert there, and it also took place on a dark and stormy night. One man recalls:
"A 10-day heat wave was about to come to an end on the evening Diana Ross was to give a much publicized free concert in New York's Central Park (the mercury hit 95 that afternoon). However, severe thunderstorms were bearing down on the city and would begin rolling through not long after the concert began. Amidst these turbulent conditions Miss Ross valiantly continued with the show despite being pelted by rain & buffeted by strong winds. At one point she referred to the torrential downpour as a 'love shower' before the concert was stopped because of lightning. And that's when things got even uglier. As the soaked crowd of 800,000 began streaming out of the park some concertgoers were set upon by marauding gangs. The press referred to it as "wilding', the first time I'd ever heard the term. (It was a crazy, raucous time in New York back in those days.) Happily, the concert was rescheduled for the next day, a Friday, and the weather couldn't have been more beautiful."
And Andy Warhol wrote of the concert:
I could never really describe the Diana Ross concert in Central Park. The sky darkened and the rain came and it was the most incredible thing i've ever seen. Just the event of the century-her hair blowing and soaking wet...it was like a dream, like a hallucination, watching this spectacle. It was like the greatest scene from a movie ever. When they do her life story in the movies you can just see this huge event and then later she's crying and saying, "Why did this happen to me?" and then drinking and slitting her wrists. But oh, the thunder and lightning looked so great. So beautiful.
